Mrs. Jennie “Doll” Cognata of Medford died on Sunday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford following a sudden illness. She is the Beloved wife of Geno Cognata with whom she shared more than 58 years of marriage.
Born in Boston, daughter of the late Accursio and Guissepina (Laura) Taromino, she was raised in Boston and is a graduate of the former Girls High School, class of 1947.
She loved to be surrounded with family and friends. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows, parades and fireworks. She loved to go to movies and dancing with her husband.
A fixture in Boston’s North End during Feast time, she was an active member of the Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca Fishermen’s feast. Her faith and unending dedication to the Blessed Mother was unconditional. She was a member of St. Clements Parish family.
Among other things, she enjoyed spending time at the beach in Orient Heights and at her Florida home in Deerfield Beach.
In addition to her husband, she leaves 3 sons Salvatore Cognata and his wife Paula of Billerica, Gus Cognato and his wife Maureen of Malden, and Gene Cognata of Medford, a daughter Frances Ciampaglia and her husband Charles of Medford. Loving grandmother of Salvatore Jr, Mellisa, Kristen, Gus and Kevin Cognata, Lori Milovanovic, Andrea Graziano, and John Ciampaglia. Also survived by 1 great grandchild, 5 step great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. Dear sister of Antoinette Graffeo of Medford and the late Mary DiPrizio, Frank, Peter, James, Joseph and Sam Taromino.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main Street MEDFORD Thursday at 8 am. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, North Square in Boston’s North End at 9 am.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8.

Services will conclude with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
