WEBSTER/STERLING – Viola L. “Vi” (Benoit) Rock, 96, of 2 Boutelle Road, Sterling, formerly of Webster, died Saturday, September 29 in Knollwood Nursing Center, West Boylston. Her husband of 40 years, Henry J. Rock, died in 1982.
She leaves a daughter, Judith A., wife of Donald Boivin of Tamarac, FL; a brother, Walter Benoit and his wife Jennie of Webster; a sister, Hazel Boulanger of Southbridge; 3 grandchildren, Janice E., wife of John McJunkins, of Sterling, who was her caregiver; Donald J. Cournoyer and his wife Jennifer of Dudley; and Melissa, wife of Philip Goedeke of Port St. Lucie, FL; 3 great grandsons, Zachary, Philip and Anthony; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters, including her twin brother Chester Benoit.
She was born in Webster, the daughter of Fred and Melina (Genard) Benoit, and lived on Park Street until moving to Sterling 2 years ago.
Mrs. Rock once worked as a spinner at Stevens Linen Associates in Dudley and then as a packer at Bates Shoe Company in Webster. After that, she was a fulltime homemaker.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. She enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 5, at 11:30 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street, Webster. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
