Obituary

Albertina M. (Mello) Farias, 86, of Swansea, formally of Huard St., Fall River, passed away after a brief illness on September 29th at the Clifton Rehabilitation Center in Somerset.

Born in Fall River and known as "Al" to most, "Ally" to some, and "Gram" to many, she worked as a sewing machine operator for Décor Fabrics for many years, later working for K-Mart in Swansea until her retirement in 1984. Her retirement years were spent caring for and helping raise many members of her extended family.

Daughter of the late Herminio C. & Maria H. (Pontes) Mello. She is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Canedy of Hookset, NH, a son, Gary P. Farias of Swansea, Three grandchildren: Lori A. Frechette of Somerset, Tambi Rondinone of NH and John Canedy of CO, and two great grandchildren: Benjamin and Timothy Frechette. Also survived by sisters Idalina P. Mello of Somerset, Inez Borden of OR and several nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Mary Branco, Herman P. and George Mello.

Her funeral will take place from Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 No. Main St., Fall River, MA on Wednesday at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Swansea at 10:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Clifton Scholarship Fund, 500 Wilbur Ave., Somerset, MA 02725.
