Obituary

Earl S. Howell, Sr., 95, of Irwinville, died Saturday, September 29, 2007 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 11A.M., Monday, October 1, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in Big Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Howell was born February 17, 1912, in Wilcox County to the late Cleveland and Lydia Wright Howell and attended school in Pitts. He lived in the community since 1937. Mr. Howell was a farmer, having been the last remaining original owners of the Irwinville Farms established in the 1930’s. He was a former employee of Cleve & Ernest Howell Saw Mills in Rebecca and Double Run and former director of Gold Kist. Mr. Howell was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Howell is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Earl Stallings Howell, Jr. & Julia of Powder Springs; daughters & sons-in-law, Nita & Randy Dill and Sherry & Jimmy Mobley all of Irwinville; grandchildren, Earl S. (Karen) Howell, III, Tammy (Melvin) Corbin, Kelley Gentry, Brian (Carmen) Dill and Kristy (Shane) Johnson; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Jarman of Jefferson and Wynelle Howell of Tifton; brother, John D. Bailey of Rutledge as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Clements Howell, grandson, Wesley Howell, 4 sisters and 1 brother.
