Obituary

Mr. Joseph Francis Danizio, Jr. of Medford and beloved husband of Emily (McGoldrick) Danizio died at his home in Medford on Wednesday, September 26, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness. He was 89 years old.
Born in Woburn, Massachusetts, on November 5, 1917, he was a beloved son of the late Joseph and Emma (Dragone) Danizio. Mr. Danizio attended Williams College, Amherst College and the University of North Carolina as part of his Naval Flight Training. He served in the US Naval Air Force, enlisting at Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts on December 12, 1942 and was honorably discharged from active duty as a Naval Lieutenant on February 12, 1945 from the Officers Separation Center in Boston. While in the Naval Air Force, he served as a Qualified Naval Pilot. Mr. Danizio continued to serve in the military as a reservist until 1964. For his honorable service, during his military career, Mr. Danizio was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon the World War II Victory Ribbon and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. After leaving the military and joining the reserves, Mr. Danizio married his beloved wife of 62 years, Emily, on March 4, 1945.
He was employed by GM Samuel Markus until 1966 when he opened his own business on Union Street in Boston called Office Products. The company, witch is still owned and operated by his family, is now located in Medford and is known as Union Office.
Mr. Danizio was a 30 years member of the Winchester Country Club and was an avid and skilled golfer. He also played semi-pro football as quarterback for the Woburn Shamrock’s and was a gifted soccer player. He was also an avid reader of historical biographies and pitcher during his baseball years. In his spare time, he loved to travel and dance with his loving wife Emily. They enjoyed trips to many places, including Ireland, Spain, France and Singapore. He was a person of great respect and simple lit up a room with his presents.
Mr. Danizio will be very sorely missed by his loving family. He was the devoted father of Joseph Danizio and his wife Ann Marie of Waltham, Stephen Danizio and his wife Nicole of Lynn, Lois Wheelock and her husband Alan of Plympton, Janice Switzer of West Medford, Terese Danizio-To’ of Waltham and Susan Danizio-Timmins of Boxford. Brother of John Danizio of West Palm Beach, FL and Mary Smith and Edith Perry both of Medford and the late Nicholas Danizio, Robert Danizio, Catherine Marashio and Eleanor Danizio. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Ave. Medford Saturday, September 29, 2007, at 10:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, 118 High Street Medford at 11:30 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours were Friday, September 28, 2007, from 4-8 PM.
