Dr. Gerald F. Pagliuca, MD, a retired Medford physician, died Tuesday morning with his loving wife of over 70 years by his side. He was 101 years old.
Dr. Pagliuca was born and raised in Boston’s North End, the son of the late Caesar and the late Giuliette Pagliuca. After graduating from English High School, Gerald attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and after graduating there, enrolled at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Boston. After a brief time of practice in East Boston, the young Dr. Pagliuca and his new bride settled in Medford, where the doctor received patients at his Main St. office for more than 50 years. A modest man with solid values, Dr. Pagliuca was available any time to serve the needs of his patients who stopped into his South Medford office. A staff physician at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital for many years, Dr. Pagliuca served as head of staff during the 1970’s. A generous man, Dr. Pagliuca was a long-time benefactor of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and also was a constant supporter of the Lawrence Memorial School of Nursing. Dr. Pagliuca was also a devoted parishioner at St. Joseph Church in Medford and had a particular fondness for the choir and ministry of music. Even though he retired upon his late 70’s, the doctor could often be found, well into his eighties, stethoscope in hand, visiting with patients at the hospital and lending his kind encouragement.
He was the beloved husband of Caroline (Fuccillo) Pagliuca. He was a devoted brother to the late Frank, Pat and Tony Pagliuca, Anna Cahina, Julie Tabbie, Jean Abruzzi and Lucy Schena. He was a dear brother-in-law to Linda Emma Hascall and her son Carl Hascall of Revere, Louise and Joseph Bruno of Revere, George and Annette Valenti of East Boston. He also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Saturday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Friday 4 - 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
