Joseph Thomas Gile, 83, a resident of Salem, New Hampshire, and a former longtime resident of the greater Lawrence, Massachusetts area, died on Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Mr. Gile was born on March 18, 1924 to Thomas R. and Anna (McAuliffe) Gile in Lawrence, Massachusetts, a graduate of Johnson High School in North Andover, MA. and attended University of New Hampshire. As an Infantry Sergeant in the Regular Army, Mr. Gile served in such Campaigns as North Africa, Scicily and Italy during World War II where he received the Purple Heart. Following the war he was Owner of "The Bungalow" and other take-out restaurants in Greater Lawrence and Salisbury Beach. His last job was that of a transport service for the Andover Cataract and Laser Center driving patients to and from their homes in the community having retired in 2005.
Mr. Gile was a life member of the DAV and as well as a life member of the Military Order the Purple Heart and the VFW. He was a past commander of American Legion Post 375, and of Post 2104, VFW as well as past district 14, VFW Commander. He was a Gold Star Father having lost his oldest son, Joseph T. Gile Jr., in 1966 in the Vietnam War. Mr. Gile was a member of the North Andover Historical Society. He was also an active member of the Post 2104 Golf League for over 50 Years. He is grand son of Frank S. Gile who served during the Civil War and was one of only 3 people to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor as a Native of North Andover, MA.
He leaves his loving wife: Constance G. (Czarnecka-Spampinato) Gile, also his children Kathleen Suduiko of Westford, MA , Susan Coldwell of Andover, MA , and his son Alan Gile of San Francisco, California; his step children Emmanuel Spampinato and his wife Denise of Methuen, MA , Virginia and her husband Stephen Alfano of Methuen, MA , and Joseph Spampinato and his wife Lisa of Salem, N.H. as well as 7 grand children, 8 step grand children and 5 great grand children. He also leaves one sister: Mary White of Methuen, MA as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Gile was pre-deceased by his brothers: Thomas, John and Raymond Gile, and his sister, Joan Sullivan.
A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 29th, 2007 at 10:00AM in the Fellowship Bible Church in Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery in North Andover, MA.
