Robert L. Mathews of North Andover, formerly of Andover, beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Gigis) Mathews, died at the Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on Friday, September 21, 2007. He was 78 years old.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, on July 9, 1929, he was a beloved son of the late Ralph H. and Audry (DeMartin) Mathews. Mr. Mathews served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Robert will be sorely missed by his beloved wife, Elizabeth and one son; Christopher P. Mathews of Haverhill, one brother; Richard Mathews of Darien, Connecticut, one sister; Linda DeStephano of Auburn, Maine and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was celebrated in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Thursday, September 27, 2007, at 1 PM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Memorial Visitation was Thursday, September 27, 2007, prior to the service, from 11 AM to 1 PM.
