Pelham, NH – Joyce E. (Carkin) Mason, 78, of Pelham, NH died Saturday September 22nd at her home. She was the wife of the late Hubert Mason.
Born in Lowell, MA on March 8, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Charles C. and Mildred B. (Whitworth) Carkin.
Mrs. Mason attended Chelmsford schools. She worked at Lowell Institution for Savings and the Lowell Gas Company. She also worked at the Pelham Police Department as a dispatcher. She served as Clerk of Court at the Pelham Municipal Court. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Pelham, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Woman’s Guild. She was a Girl Scout Leader, was active in Pelham’s 250th Anniversary Celebration, and was one of the authors of the town’s history book “Reflections.” She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Pelham Square and Compass Club, Ladies Fire Auxiliary to the Pelham Fire Department, Pelham Community Spirit, and the Sherburne Hall Restoration Committee. She was a Supervisor of the Checklist and was a Justice of the Peace from 1975. She enjoyed spending time with her children and their families, gardening, rug braiding, sewing, and selling goods at the flea market.
Mrs. Mason is survived by two sons Bruce D. Mason and his wife Lori of Nottingham, NH and Brian L. Mason and his wife Patty of Hudson, NH; two daughters Marlene D. Harmon and her husband Carl of Hudson and Jennifer L. M. Theroux and her husband David of Goffstown, NH; a former daughter-in-law Beverly Stanley of Hudson, NH; two sisters Jacqueline Matthews of N. Chelmsford, MA and Sandy Ostman of Merrimack, NH; ten grandchildren Mike, George, Rosemary, Rhonda, Andrea, Megan, Mike, Rob, Austen, and Ross; five great grandchildren Cameron, Elliot, Emily, Zane, and Onna; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM. Her funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Gibson Cemetery in Pelham. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Home Health & Hospice Care Inc., 22 Prospect St, Nashua, NH 03060.
