Obituary

John F. Flood, 70, of New Bedford died Monday December 23, 2002 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Joan M. (Griffith) Flood, with whom he celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary in November 2002, and son of the late John F. and Mary A. (McQuade) Flood.

Mr. Flood was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all his life. He was a graduate of Msgr. Coyle High School in Taunton, riding the train daily to and from school. He attended New Bedford Textile Institute.

He was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.

He was formerly employed as an equipment installer for New England Telephone Company until his retirement in 1992.

Mr. Flood served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531, Telephone Company Pioneers and American Association of Retired People, and was a former member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick.He enjoyed the ocean, Horseneck Beach and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; 2 brothers, Stephen M. Flood and Edward F. Flood, both of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Frances Blanchard, and her husband Roland, of New Bedford, and Elizabeth Haskell, and her husband Donald, of Irvine, California; and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Bernard Flood.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordFriday December 27, 2002 at 10 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday December 26, 2002 from 4-7 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society, c/o Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
