Ms. Antonia Banakos, 88, died Friday, September 21, at D'Youville Nursing Home in Lowell.
She was born in Argos, Greece, May 1, 1919, the daughter of Peter "Taki" and Margo (Felores) Banakos. Ms. Banakos came to the United States at an early age. She was educated through the Lowell schools.
At an early age, she worked as an attendent at the Keith movie theatre. She later earned her certification in dietary nutrition and worked at Tewksbury Hospital, and Lowell General Hospital for many years.
Ms. Banakos loved animals, music, and dancing. She was also an award winning seamstress. She was a dedicated member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity of Lowell.
She is survived by two sisters, Irene Paras of Yarmouth, Mass., Claire Banakos of Maryland; nephews, Nick and Peter Petrakos, both of Lowell, Peter Paras of Kansas, and Chris Paras of Merrimack, N.H.; and a niece, Maryanne Petrakos of Lowell. She was also the sister of the late Jenny Petrakos, and Ethel Dowry, and aunt of the late George Paras.
Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell, on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Her funeral will take place on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Funeral home to be followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., at the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity of Lowell. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Holy Trinity Church.
