Obituary

Harold W. Hicks, 85, of Fitzgerald, formerly of Harlan, Kentucky, died September 22, 2007, at the home of his daughter in Fitzgerald.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, September 24,in the Resthaven Cemetery in Harlan County, Kentucky, with the Rev. Ernest Boggs officiating.

Mr. Hicks was born October 7, 1921, in Whitley County, Kentucky to the late Edward and Martha Hart Hicks. He lived most of his life in Harlan, KY. Mr. Hicks retired after 40 years of service from United States Steel as a Coal Miner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, a Member, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher of the Harlan Baptist Church and was a volunteer for Camp Blanton Baptist Camp. Mr. Hicks was a graduate of Hall High School in Harlan and a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

He is survived by two daughters: Kay Johnson of Harlan, KY and Barbara (Wayne) Owens of Fitzgerald; three grand children: Tracey Bruce of Louisville, KY, Kristy Owens of Atlanta, and Brent Owens of Fitzgerald; 2 great grandchildren: Jordan and Andrew Bruce of Louisville, KY; one sister: Charlotte Wilson of Lexington, KY. Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Napier Hicks, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Mount Pleasant Mortuary, Harlan, Kentucky, is charge of arrangements.
