Obituary

Worcester - John Paul Brodeur, 92, formerly of 58 Weatherstone Drive and of 9 Litchfield Street, Worcester, died on Friday, September 21 at home after being stricken ill.

Mr. Brodeur’s beloved wife of 60 years Marcellaise A ( Daigneault) Brodeur died in 2001. He is survived by two sons Richard P. Brodeur of Brentwood, Tennessee and Marc J. Brodeur of Newark, Delaware, two daughters Michelle Meomartino of Nothbridge and Celeste Hedge Lionett of Worcester, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Brodeur was born in Worcester, son of Ernest and Azama (Richer) Brodeur. He was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Alcyone during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Brodeur worked as a district sales manager for over 30 years for the Frito Lay Co. before retiring in 1979. He previously worked at Brodeur Brothers Market on Millbury Street. He was a member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243, the American Legion Post #423 and a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7556. His outgoing personality and sense of humor made him beloved by many.

The funeral for Mr. Brodeur will be held on Tuesday, September 25 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 10 A.M at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 53 Illinois Street. Entombment with Military Honors will follow at Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 24 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Mr. Brodeur’s name may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Church, 51 Illinois Street, Worcester, MA 01610 or to the Central Mass Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
