Obituary

WORCESTER___Edwina A. (Karpicus) Ginkus, 93, of 21 Gordon Street, died Wednesday Sept. 19, 2007 in Blaire House of Worcester.
Her husband of 56 years retired Fire Capt. Francis J. Ginkus died in 1996.

She leaves two daughters, Judith A. Lofty and her husband, Wilbert of Worcester and Janet Ginkus Allen and her husband Asa of Shrewsbury; a sister, Helen Kasanowski of Colchester, Ct., and nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister, Michael, John and Vincent Karpicus and Nellie Nosek. She was born in Lowell, a daughter of Michael and Marcella (Buja) Karpicus and had lived most of her life in Worcester.

Mrs. Ginkus was a clerk 10 years for the Coca Cola Co before she retired. Previously she was a ward secretary 10 years at St. Vincent Hospital. She was a graduate of Commerce High School. Edwina was a member of St. Casimir Church and its Mothers Guild and sang in the St. Casimir Choir, St. Paul’s Pontifical Choir and other area choirs. She was a member of the Lithuanian Charitable Society, Council 26 Knights of Lithuania, and was a member and past president of the American Lithuanian Roman Catholic Womens Alliance. She sang with the Worcester Chorus for more than 25 years and also sang with the Worcester Master Singers for many years. Edwina loved sports and music.

The funeral will be held on Saturday Sept. 22, 2007 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday Sept. 21, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Members of Council 26 Knights of Lithuania will meet at 6:00 p.m. during calling hours to conduct their ritual. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church Building Fund, 41 Providence Street, Worcester, Ma., 01604.
