Verlene M. Davis, 88, of Derry, NH, died Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in the Haven Health Center, Derry. Mrs. Davis was born in Jonesport, Maine on October 23, 1918, a daughter of the late Orin and Phoebe (Beal) Chandler. She was a resident of Derry for the past 45 years, formerly living in Illinois and Maine. She was employed as an inspector for Pandora Mills, Manchester, NH. Mrs. Davis was an Elder with the Church of the Nazarene in Derry and Londonderry, NH. She loved to travel and enjoyed going on the Derry Senior Citizens Trips. Mrs. Davis also enjoyed attending her camp meetings in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia. She also enjoyed walking and would walk all over Derry.
She is survived by a son, Millard R. Davis and his wife Claire of Manchester, four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two brothers, Oscar and Leo Chandler, both of Jonesport, two sisters, Sarah Schevenieus and Elva Robinson, both of Jonesport, and also by many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leland H. Davis in 1979 and by several brothers and sisters.
Visiting hours were held on Monday, September 24, 2007 from 1-3pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. A funeral service was at 3:00pm in the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Derry.
