Mr. Richard J. “Cap” Sullivan Sr., age 78, Of Woburn formerly of Medford died unexpectedly September 19th in his home. A Woburn resident for over fifty years he was the beloved husband of Margaret E. (Gonsalves). Born in Medford he was the son of the late Bartholomew and Emily Mae (Fortune) Sullivan.
Mr. Sullivan was raised and educated in Medford and graduated from Medford High School where he excelled as an athlete and was the captian of the Basketball team. Mr. Sullivan served in the Unites States Air Force during the Korean War. In 1973 he started The Industrial Tire Sales Co. of Burlington and owned and operated the business for many years until his retirement when his son Paul took over the business. Mr. Sullivan was an avid sports fan and loved following the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed traveling to Ormond Beach, FL where together with his wife they would spend a few of the winter months every year.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Sullivan is survived by his five sons, Richard of Brockton, Robert and his wife Marylou of Darien, CT, John and his wife Cynthia of North Easton, David and his wife Linda and Paul Sullivan all of Woburn. He is further survived by his loving grandchildren, Keri, Ryan, Meaghan, Courtney, Michael, Melissa, Christopher, Jack, Keith, Daniel, Matthew and Julie Sullivan. He is further survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He predeceased by his sister Patricia Bowden.
Funeral from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday, at 9 a.m. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles church 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Interment will be private.
