GLOUCESTER: Sylvia M. Gardner, 73, of 31 Prospect Street, died Monday, September 17, 2007 in the Beverly Hospital.
Born in Amesbury on December 21, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Ruth (Paul) Gardner. She had resided in the Maryland and Washington, D.C. area for many years before moving to Gloucester twenty-five years ago. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, she was honorably discharged as an Airman Third Class on August 7, 1953.
Sylvia was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past thirty-two years and enjoyed the meetings and the many friends of that fellowship. She was especially fond of children, nature, the arts and all animals. She was also a member of the Trinity Congregational Church.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah A. O’Connor of Lexington, KY and Karen M. and David Panos of Austin, TX, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, a sister, Shirley Gardner of Newburyport, dear friends, Marsha Nielsen, Robert Taylor, Mary Patton, Jane Militello and Jim Dinsmore and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a sister, Barbara Gallagher.
Her funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Trinity Congregational Church, Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
