Obituary

PAUL R. GARVIN of Hingham, died suddenly at his home on Monday, Sept. 17th. He was 71. Mr. Garvin was born in Weymouth and was a lifelong resident of Hingham. A graduate of Hingham High School, he worked for a number of years as a mechanic at Gelo's Service Station in Hingham Center and later worked for 33 years as a mechanic and driver for the Hingham Municipal Lighting Plant, retiring 10 years ago. During his years with the lighting plant, he also was associated with Ford Tree Service in Hingham. As a young man Mr. Garvin was a member of the National Guard in Hingham and was also a longtime call firefighter with the Hingham Fire Department where he served as Captain of Ladder #1. He had many interests including camping, working in his yard and trips to Foxwoods in Connecticut.

He was the husband of Marion A. (Locke) Garvin of Hingham and father of William E. Garvin and his wife Tammy of Hingham, Cheryl A. Garvin of Hingham and Paula M. Garvin and her husband David Smith of Plymouth. He was the brother of Susan M. Selfridge of Derry, NH, Janice M Seiferth of Daytona Beach, FL and the late Robert W. Garvin. Also survived by his grandchildren; Paul D., Christopher M., Sabrina R., Victoria A. and Tatiana E. Garvin.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 22nd at 11 AM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt.228), Hingham.

Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Friday from 4-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Bare Cove Fire Museum, P.O. Box 262, Hingham, MA 02043

The interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hingham.
