Obituary

GLOUCESTER: William H. “Willy” Spinney, 81, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 in the Golden Living Center in Gloucester following an extended illness. He was the husband of Mary Elvira (Leavitt) Spinney.
Born in Gloucester on March 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Prescott Y. and Isabel P. (McComiskey) Spinney. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served as 1st Scout with the 10th Mountain Division and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1945. He was a member of the Doucette-Linguard V.F.W. Post #1624.
Willy was employed as a mason’s laborer for the Faulk Bros. Construction Co. for nineteen years before retiring in 1988. He was also the caretaker of the former Rice Estate on Dolliver’s Neck from many years.
In addition to his wife of fifty-nine years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl D. and Vincent F Puccio and two grandsons, Rocco A. and Andrew J. Puccio all of Wilmington, a brother and two sisters-in-law, Ernest and Irene Spinney and Mabelle Wonson all of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, William H. Spinney, Jr. and three brothers, Roderick, George, Prescott Spinney, Jr.
His funeral services will be held on Friday in the Pike-Grondin funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. At the family’s request, there are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the World War II Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 634, Gloucester, MA 01930.
