Auburn – Alpherie “Joe” Collette, 91 of Eddy Pond and formerly of Canterbury St. in Worcester died on Monday, September 17 in the Lifecare Center of Auburn after a brief illness.
Mr. Collette’s wife of 67 years Rose M. (Comeau) Collette died in 2005. He is survived by a son Joseph A. and his wife Barbara of Rochdale; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Mr. Collette was born in Southbridge, MA son of Ernest and Antonia (Lachance) Collette and is predeceased by two sons Paul and Robert Collette, three brothers, two sisters and a grandchild.
Joe is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II where he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star as well as being a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.
He worked for many years at Rexnord Chain Co. as a machine operator before retiring in 1982. Mr. Collette was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church, the Tatnuck American Legion Post, the Veteran’s of the Battle of the Bulge Chapter XXII, the Veteran’s of Foreign War and the Froshinn Club in Shrewsbury.
Mr. Collette was a proud American and loved to tell his stories of his service to his country.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester, with a mass at 10 AM in Holy Name of Jesus Church 53 Illinois St. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Veteran’s Shelter for the Homeless 69 Grove St. Worcester, MA 01605.
