Obituary

James P. Bowler, a retired Dedham Firefighter, died September 16, 2007 at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain after a brief illness. He was 73. He was the beloved husband of Sheila A. (Cosgrove) Bowler for 49 years.

Mr. Bowler was born in Somerville and was the son of the late James P. and Julia (Nee) Bowler. He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps. A Dedham resident for over 45 years, he was a firefighter in the town for 34 years until retiring in 1997. He was also a member of the Professional Firefighter’s Association and the Dedham V.F.W.

He was the devoted father of Stephen M. Bowler and his wife Laura of Dedham, James W. Bowler and his wife Katharina of Boca Raton, FL, Brian J. Bowler of Boca Raton, FL and Eileen S. Rodger and her husband Michael of Boca Raton, FL. Grandfather of Alex, Ryan, Jacob and Eric. Brother of Beatrice McCarrick of Medford, Michael Bowler of Somerville and the late Maurice Bowler. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, on Thursday at 8:00 AM with a funeral mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham, at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 3-8 PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in James’ memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Center at Faulkner Hospital, 1153 Centre St., Boston, MA 02130.
