Obituary

George P. Stack of Newton, formerly of Charlestown and Brighton died on Friday September 14 at the Parmenter / Wayside Hospice in Wayland. He was 88 years old. Born and raised in Charlestown, George attended Charlestown schools. In October of 1943, Mr. Stack enlisted in the US Navy. He served in the South Pacific during World War II, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received the World War II Victory medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal and The Philippine Liberation Medal. Mr. Stack was a career longshoreman and was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Union Local #799, until he retired in 1984. His memberships also included the DAV Chapter #27 in Somerville, the VFW Post #1664 of Newton and for many years a dedicated member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association. Mr. Stack and his family lived for a number of years in Charlestown before moving to Brighton and then to Auburndale.
The beloved and loving husband for 69 years of Anna (Gravelle) Stack, he was the devoted father of Ann Marie Dagle and her late husband Ronald of Shrewsbury, Janice Thompson and her husband Alexander of Norton, George Stack and his wife Carolyn of North Reading, Joseph Stack of Newton, Rosemarie “Rowie” Stravinsky and her husband Joseph of West Roxbury, Mary Connelly of Waltham, Patrick Stack and his wife Pamela of St. Louis, MO, Robert Stack and his wife Janice of Orange, Joan Stack of Newton and the late Kathleen Stack. Adored grandfather of Ronald, Kevin and Daniel Dagle, Brendan Stack, Julie Fritzinger, Alexander, Michael and Kara Thompson, KimMarie Keane, Karen Daniels, Paula Vass, Brian Connelly, Molly and Katherine Stack, Colin and Ryan Stack.Beloved step-grandfather of Erin. Morgan and Ryan Murphy. Loving great grandfather of Katie and Erin Dagle, Kayley and Daniel Stack, Ella Ftritzinger, Alexander Thompson, Reid and Isla Thompson, Sydney Daniels, Jonathan and Julia Vass. Beloved brother of the late Mary Toomey, James Stack, Rosetta Hubbard and Margaret Stack. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Eaton and Mackay Funeral Home 465 Centre St. Newton Corner on Tuesday September 18 at 9:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Corpus Christi Church, 45 Ash St Auburndale at 10:30 MA. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours on Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers, kindly make memorial donations in George’s name to the Wayside Hospice c/o Parmenter Wayside Hospice Service area, 266 Cochituate Rd. Wayland MA 01778.
