Josephine M. (Woods) Galvin, 89, of Marion died December 13, 2001at Tobey Hospital surrounded by her family and close friends.
She was the widow the late T. Frank Galvin.
Born in Brookline, she was the daughter of the late George H. and Winifred (Flanagan) Woods, both born in England.
After years in the Boston area, modeling furs and working in retail sales, she moved to Marion and has resided there since 1952. She continued her career in retail sales, working at Harves Shoe Box for many years, until retiring at 76 years old.
She was a communicant of St. Rita's Church in Marion.
"Jo", as she was affectionately known, was a loyal and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 31 years and remained a staunch advocate for people new in recovery. She will be there in her spirit for many, in that great community.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Sheila Chaberek, and her husband Walter Chaberek, of Barrington, NH and Susan Richard of Taunton; 2 sons, Donald Galvin of Pawtucket, RI and Richard Galvin, and his wife Randi (Clemishaw) Galvin of Marion; a sister, Queenie Brown of Weston; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kathleen and Marci; 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday December 17th at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Rita's Church, Marion at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM. Interment Evergreen Cemetery in Marion.
