Obituary

WORCESTER-John A. Daly, Sr., 77, of 17 Blaine Avenue died Friday, December 20th in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center as a result of injuries suffered in a fire in his home. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Phyllis A. (Monast) Daly; 2 sons, John A. Daly, Jr. and Thomas G. Daly both of Worcester; 2 daughters, Maureen F. Scott of Worcester and Anne M. Olsen of Clifton Park, NY; 2 sisters, Frances McPartland of Worcester and Judith West of Boylston; 15 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His son, Joseph T. Daly died December 12th and 3 brothers, Richard Daly, Donald Daly, Joseph Daly and a sister, Mary Daly predeceased him.

He was born in Worcester the son of Joseph T. and Ethel J. (Reidy) Daly and lived in Worcester all his life. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Mr. Daly was a toll testman for New England Telephone for 32 years before retiring. He also worked for 7 years for the Worcester Fire Department. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church, the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Counsel #88 and the Bishop O’Reilly Assembly Fourth Degree. He was Past President and Shop Steward of the International Brotherhood of Telephone Workers. He was a long time coach of the Ty Cobb Little League and was an avid Worcester Ice Cats fan.

The funeral will be Monday, December 23rd from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a mass at noon in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, December 22nd from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Our Lady of the Angels Mortgage Fund, 1222 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
