Ernest Lee Smith, 86, passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital – N MS in Oxford, MS Wednesday, September 12, 2007. He was born to the late James N. and Effie Lee Edlin Smith in Marshall County, MS. He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Smith was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church and the Disabled American Veterans.
The visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2007 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will take place in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 2:00 p.m with Bro. James Edwards and Bro. Jimmy Hood officiating. The committal will be held in Oakland Cemetery in Oakland, MS with Davy Bailey, Kevin Able, Kenny Brown, Sam Taylor, Ashley Boggan, Jerry Haynie, Sherwin Haynie, and Patrick Haynie serving as pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers are Dr. Joe Walker, David Gillett, Wade Holland, John Whitsette, Brad Hughes, Mac Ross, Walter Fequay, Rich Ross, and Jeff VanCleave.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 65 ½ years, Nell Smith of Oakland, MS; two daughters, Sandra (Carl) Wadsworth of Euless, TX and Linda (David) Bailey of Cleveland, MS; a son, Ron (Marie) Smith of Southaven, MS; four grandchildren, Jeff Vancleave, Davy Bailey, Denise Green, and Amanda Abel; and 7 great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Era Knighton and a brother, Jessie Smith.
