Philip Littell, retired artist, died on September 11th after a long illness at the Carriage House, The Elms, Westerly, RI.
Born in New York City on November 30, 1936, the fourth child of Robert and Anita Damrosch Littell, Mr. Littell attended schools in New York and Paris, Goddard College, Plainfield, VT, and the Art Students League in Manhattan.
He was for many years a resident of the Berkshires in Massachusetts. As a child and adult, he had spent summers at his parents’ home there in Tyringham.
After leaving New York he lived at Rolling Hills in Lenox, where he pursued a career as a painter. Several years ago he moved to Stonington Borough, Connecticut, to be close to his siblings Blaine Littell and Alisa Littell Storrow.
He is survived by Mrs. Storrow, of Stone Ridge, Mystic, CT, and Walter Damrosch Littell, of Concord, MA.
A Memorial Service for this most beloved member of the Littell and Damrosch families will be held at 1pm Sunday, September 16th, at Calvary Church, Stonington. There is no visitation.
