Hazel Delight Crouch passed away at the Mystic Manor Nursing Home on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 after a long period of failing health. Her nieces, Sharon Callender and Holly Bosse were beside her. She was 79 years old.
Hazel was born April 14, 1928, in Groton, the daughter of George Ed Crouch and Mary (Prosser) Watrous Crouch. She attended Lambtown Elementary School in Ledyard and the Chapman Technical High School in New London.
After the death of her father, Hazel became the mainstay of the family, helping her mother and her younger siblings. She was employed as an operator at the Southern New England Telephone Company for many years. She and her mother lived for a short time in Southern California where she also worked as a telephone operator. They lived for a number of years in Tampa, Fla. After the death of her mother, Hazel made her home with her brother George in Connecticut.
Hazel was a caring, giving, sharing daughter, sister, and aunt.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Crouch, of Florida, several nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Entwistle, and brothers, Zach Watrous, George Crouch and Chester Crouch.
Her family will gather for a private service. There are no calling hours.
