Sr. Rose Alice Bishop RJM
Manchester– Sr. Rose Alice Bishop (Marie de Pontmain) RJM, died September 10, 2007 at Holy Cross Health Care Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Washburne Me. on October 16, 1916, the daughter of Raymond and Sophie (Labelle) Bishop. She was one of 13 children.
She graduated from St. Claire High School in Woonsocket RI. She received her BA in Education Degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence RI.
She professed her final vows on August 24, 1937.
She taught in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York for 33 years. In 1968 she served in Summer Outreach to the Poor, additionally she was involved in Religious Education, social work and parish work. In her “Years of Retirement” she served as community staff, aid in Province Infirmary, in Maryland and Massachusetts, and clerical assistant for QUEST, Province volunteer program.
She recently celebrated her 70 th Jubilee of Religious profession.
She was a woman of prayer and service active in the Charismatic Movement.
She was devoted to her extended family comprising several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She participated in their family reunions.
In her latter years she was a devotee of WETN, Catholic Television Network and participated in their religious exercises.
Services: a calling hour will be Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 am in Holy Cross Chapel 357 Island Pond Rd. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am in the Chapel following the calling hour. Burial will follow in Villa Augustina Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Villa Augustina Tuition Assistance Fund 208 S. Mast St. Goffstown NH 03045.
