Obituary

LOWELL—Helen Winn Murphy, a lifelong resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died Saturday September 8th, at Lowell General Hospital. She was the widow of George A. Murphy, a retired Lowell Firefighter who died in July of 1978.

Helen was born Lowell, on November 5, 1917, a daughter of the late James and Annie (Warnock) Winn. She was a graduate of the Immaculate Conception Grammar School; Lowell High School, Class of 1935; and Lowell Commercial College, October 1937.

For over 61 years Mrs. Murphy had been employed by the W.H. Bagshaw Company, in Nashua, NH, retiring in 1999, as the Office Manager.

Mrs. Murphy was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a lifelong avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Surviving her are a daughter: Mary Murphy Ham, a member of the Lowell High School Math Department, and her partner Bruce A. Jacklin, of Windham, NH; a son: Robert J. Murphy, Principal of the H.J. Robinson Middle School, in Lowell, and his wife Donna Murphy, of Lowell; three grandchildren: Matthew R. Ham; Kristen A. Murphy and Michael P. Murphy. She is also survived by: Nancy Cunha, and her three daughters: Kathy, Nancy and Mary Jo.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM on Thursday, September 13th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered on Friday, September 14th at 10 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH, Lowell. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. Donations in her memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception School; 218 Merrimack Street; Lowell, MA 01852. Arrangements by Mahoney Funeral Home, Lowell.
