Retired USMC Captain Daniel J. Collins Sr., 72, of Bedard Avenue, Derry, NH died Friday December 20, 2002 at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry following a lengthy illness. He was born in Lynn, MA on September 20, 1930, a son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Gibney) Collins. He was a resident of Derry since 1972, formerly living in Long Island, NY and Lynn, MA. He retired from the United States Marine Corp in 1972 as Captain, after 23 years of service. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Lester Chase Post #9, Derry, the VFW Post #1617, Derry and the Alpine Club of Manchester.
He is survived by his wife, Florence E. Collins, of Derry, one son, Daniel J. Collins Jr, Nesconset, NY, three daughters, Linda Conway, Kelly-Ann Lemay, both of Manchester, Cathy-Jo Girgus, Derry, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law, James Marriott, Richard Marriott, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 23, 2002 at 10:00am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Graveside services will follow at 1:00pm at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn, MA. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 – 5 PM.
