Obituary

BEVERLY- Stanley Georgilakis, 83, husband of the late Mary (Stathes) Georgilakis, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, died Friday morning, December 20, 2002 at his home following an illness of several months.

Born in Salem on October 29, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Katherine (Lithitakis) Georgilakis who immigrated from the island of Crete in 1914.

A resident of Salem and Beverly for most of his adult life, he was a member of the St Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church in Peabody. He was a member and Past Master of the Essex Lodge, AF & AM and the Washington Royal Arch Chapter, both in Salem.

Prior to his retirement in 1999 he was employed for 18 years by Gold Star Coffee Co. In Salem, a business owned by his brother Peter Georgilakis and his family. He previously worked as a purchasing agent at Boyle Machine & Supply in Peabody for 35 years.

A Coast Guard Veteran of WWII, he served on the Pacific coast, where he met his wife Mary. After the war, he enlisted in the Navy Reserve and served until 1955.

Mr Georgilakis enjoyed sports, fishing, dancing, travel. Was noted as a genuine family man and was an expert fix-it man for all of his family and friends.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen G. & Donald M Brings, Jr of Beverly and with whom he resided, Christine E. And Kenneth L. Faulkner of Amesbury, six grandchildren, Nicholas Brings, Andrew Brings, Katina Brings, and Stefan brings, all of Beverly, Tara Agostino and Shaun Faulkner, both of Amesbury, one brother, Theodore “Ted” Georgilakis of Branson, Missouri, two sisters, Marie Tranos of Peabody, Sophia Pouris of Bethesda, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Mary, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage prior to her death in January of this year, he was predeceased by three brothers, George Larkin, Peter Georgilakis, Mike Georgilakis, and two sisters, Helen Hunt and Christine Skylar.

His funeral will be held Monday, December 23, 2002 at 8 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a service at 9 am at the St Vasilios Greek Orthodox Church, Peabody. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Sunday, 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm. A masonic service will be held at 7 pm. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
