Obituary


Charles E. Dole Jr., 88, a former longtime Franklin resident, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at the Carlyle House in Framingham, following a long illness.

He was the husband of Anne W. (Little) Dole for 48 years.

Born in Winchester, he was a son of the late Charles E. Dole Sr. and Mildred C. (Kidder) Dole, and had lived in Franklin for more than 37 years before moving to Framingham several years ago. Raised and education in Malden, he was a 1938 graduate of Malden High School.

A retired journalist, he worked for many years until his retirement from the Christian Science Monitor in Boston.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy, and attained the rank of Yeoman 1st class. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, the American Area Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1945 after 3« years of service.

He was a former member of the Fourth Estate Lodge AF & AM in Boston, now St. John's Lodge, where he was a two-time Past Master. He was also a member of Aleppo Shrine.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dexter Dole of New Hampshire, Gregory Dole of Arizona; two daughters, Janet D. Tsiknias of South Carolina, and Gloria A. Amirault of Lexington; two sisters, Barbara Dole and Thelma Smith, of Melrose; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was also the grandfather of the late Christopher Amirault.

The funeral service will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m., at the Medway Community Church, 193 Main St., Rte. 109, Medway.

Burial with military honors will follow at 1:45 p.m., at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
