John A. "Nunui" Gonsalves, 49, of Mitchellville, Maryland died Thursday December 19, 2002 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Sandra (Silva) Gonsalves, who died on February 6, 2002.
Born and raised in New Bedford, the son of John M. Gonsalves of New Bedford and the late Mary "Mamie" (Cosmo) Gonsalves, he lived in Maryland for the past 20 years.
Mr. Gonsalves was formerly employed as a teacher at the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda, Maryland.
Mr. Gonsalves was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland. He was an assistant basketball coach at Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland.
Survivors include his father John M. Gonsalves and his wife, Judith, of New Bedford; a son, Keri Jon Gonsalves of Mitchellville; a brother, Michael "Mickey" Gonsalves and his companion, Denise Beck of New Bedford; 2 sisters, Linda Almeida and her husband Luke of Wareham, and Patricia Beauchemin of Woodbridge, Virginia; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfredo B. "Freddie" and Maria (Livramento) Silva, of New Bedford; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordMonday December 23, 2002 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday December 22, 2002 from 3-7 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
