Obituary

Linzee Wallis, 83, husband of Gloria (Allen) Wallis, of Salem, died Friday evening, September 21, 2001, in a local nursing home following a short illness.

Born in Mansfield, he was the son of the late Gilbert and Blanche (Norwood) Wallis.  Mr Wallis was a graduate of Mansfield High School in 1935 and attended Northeastern University.

During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a pilot at Guadalcanal and as a carrier landing signal officer throughout the Pacific campaigns.  After the war, he remained in the Navy Reserve and was recalled to Active duty during the Korean Conflict as a fighter pilot with reserve squadron VF-916, based in Squantum, MA.  He was then deactivated to the retired reserve with the rank of Captain.

Well known in banking circles, he was employed by the Shawmut Association for 34 years and retired in 1974 as Senior Vice-president from Shawmut Bank, N.A. in Salem.  Following his retirement he remained active with the auditing firm of Shatswell & McLeod of Boston.

A resident of Salem since 1943, he was a member of the St Peter’s Church where he served on the vestry and as Senior Warden.  He was trustee and treasurer of the North Shore Children’s Hospital, treasurer of the Seamen’s Widow and Orphan Association of Salem, Director of the Salem Chamber of Commerce, member of the Peabody-Essex Museum, a Corporator of the Salem Savings Bank and a trustee of the Salem Public Library.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage, he is survived by one son, Linzee Wallis Jr. of Billings, Montana, one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jon Eisenhaur of Marblehead, two grandchildren, J. Michael Eisenhaur of Marblehead, Amy Thompson of Owings Mills, MD, two great grandchildren Zachary Eisenhaur of Westminster and Olivia Thompson of Owings Mills, MD.

His funeral service was held Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at 3 pm in the St Peter’s Episcopal Church, 24 St Peter St., Salem, MA 01970.  Visiting hours were Monday from 4 to 8 pm in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St Peter’s Church Permanent Memorial Fund or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923.
