TEWKSBURY - Muriel I. (Crouse) Gifford, R.N., age 75, an active member of the Tewksbury
seniors community, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at D’Youville Manor, surrounded by her loving
family, after a three month battle with cancer.
She was born in Belmont, MA, on June 7, 1932 a daughter of the late Harris and Dorothy
(Johnson) Crouse. She was raised in Billerica , and graduated from the Howe High School in
Billerica. She went on to graduate from the Lowell General School of Nursing with the Class of
1953, and retired from Lowell General Hospital’s nursing staff, after 37 years of faithful service.
In her earlier years, she devoted her life to raising her family while maintaining her Nursing career.
In her later years, she became an active member of Tewksbury senior community, as an officer
and past president of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club, and was currently a member of the
Tewksbury Council on Aging. Mrs. Gifford was a member of Tewksbury’s Red Hatter’s Society,
and was a participant in the Senior’s Community Calendar.
She was a member of the Ballard Vale Methodist Church in Andover, and a singer in the
Tewksbury Interfaith Choir.
She was also described as a world traveler, who had seen much of America, and many countries in
Europe, Asia, and the Carribean.
She is survived by five children, John F. Gifford Jr. of Webster, NH, William F. Gifford of
Canterbury, NH, Eleanor D. Moore and her husband Gerald of Litchfield, NH, Debra S.
McKinnon of Tewksbury, and Russell E. Gifford and his partner Angela DeLuca of Tewksbury; a
brother and sister-in-law, Harris and Eleanor Crouse of Hyde Park; a sister and brother-in-law,
Dorothy and Robert Woodworth of Moultonboro, NH; eight grandchildren, Melissa Gifford of
Concord, NH, Vera Ann Gifford of N.M., Gerald Moore Jr. of Nashua, NH, Rhonda Moore of
Litchfield, NH, Christopher McKinnon, U.S. Army, Jennifer McKinnon of Tewksbury, Steffanie
DeLuca-Gifford and Sarah DeLuca-Gifford both of Tewksbury; four great grandchildren,
Joscelyn, Jacob, Rylie, and Joshua; several nieces and nephews; and numerous dear friends.
Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ballard Vale Methodist
Church, 23 Clark Road, Andover, MA, followed by burial in Tewksbury Cemetery. Visiting
hours Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. G.A.C.
