Obituary

Jessie Eleanor Sneed Haney, 93, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend died September 3, 2007 in Houston, Texas after a brief illness.

She was born in Centralia, Missouri on July 6, 1914. Jessie, also known as Jay by many, knew Jesus as her savior and found great peace and strength in reading her Bible nightly.

She found joy and purpose in caring for her family. Jessie had a gift for making any house into a warm and comfortable home where all were welcomed. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and celebrating with family and friends. Jessie is a past member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, as well as the Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union and served in many capacities.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Wilmer B. (Bill) Haney, two sons Kenneth J. Gordon and Robert V. Gordon, parents Nell Robinson Sneed and Ed Sneed, a sister Margaret Sneed Heddesheimer and two brothers Sam E. Sneed and William R. Sneed.

Jessie is survived by her son William E. Gordon and wife, Dianne, daughter Eleanor K. Haney Mayne, daughter-in-law Lynda Gordon and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. Her precious memory will live in our hearts always.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 2:30 PM in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home Chapel in Water Valley, Mississippi. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley, MS.
