Mary E. (Farren) Hastie, a Charlestown resident for many years, died suddenly at her home in Charlestown on Saturday September 1, 2007. She was 85 years old.
Mary was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester, where she attended St. Gregory's Grammer School and graduated from St. Gregory's High School. She worked for several years at Walter Baker Chocolate Company in Dorchester.
Mary is the beloved wife of the late Paul J. Hastie. She is the devoted mother of John Hastie and his wife Jane of Charlestown, Boston Firefighter Kevin Hastie and his wife Shelley of Weymouth, Janie McInnis and her husband Michael of Malden, Valerie Palladino and her husband Angelo of Everett, Daniel Hastie and his wife Jeanne of N.H., David Hastie of Quincy and the late Judith Kane. She is the loving grandmother of 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Helen Smith and the late John and James Farren.
Mary's Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Mary will be held on Wednesday September 5, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
