Autry Roberts Dent, 86, of Thomasville (formerly of Ocilla), died Monday, September 3, at the Golden Living Center in Thomasville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 7, at the Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Otis McGee and Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in Old Valley Grove Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Dent was born September 10, 1920, in Berrien County, to the late John Leonard and Tiny Pope Roberts. She lived in the Irwin community most of her life, graduating from the Ocilla High School in 1939 and for the past six years made her home in Thomasville. Mrs. Dent was a bookkeeper with Georgia Power Company, retiring after thirty-five years. She was an active member of the Ocilla Primitive Baptist Church, where she taught Bible study for over twenty years, was a counselor at church camp, made costumes and directed plays and was a former circle teacher.
Mrs. Dent is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Mahala & Ellis Fletcher of Thomasville; granddaughters and their husbands, Lisa Autry & Jack Singletary and Gina Mahala & Todd Bennett, all of Thomasville; great-grandchildren, Spencer Ellis Singletary, Jackson Dent Singletary, John Murphy Singletary, Annalisa Brookins Singletary, Mahala Anne “Haley” Bennett and Abbigail Savannah “Abbey” Bennett, all of Thomasville; brother, Cortez Roberts of Columbus; sister & brother-in-law, Pamela & Jud Pusey of Ocilla as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: James Monroe Dent, Jr., and three sisters: Ceal Roberts, Bernice Voellinger, and Jerrie Roberts.
