Obituary

Frederick James Wright, 90, passed away at Woodside Hospice in Pinellas Park on Wednesday, December 11, 2002.

Mr. Wright, formerly of St. Petersburg, moved here from Medford, Massachusetts in 1984.

A light opera singer with the Rhodes Company of Boston, he was well-known for his rich baritone voice.

As a past member of the Shiloh Baptist Church of West Medford, which he attended as a child until the time he moved to Florida, he is remembered as the choir director and lead soloist for the church.

Mr. Wright was a psychiatric aide at the Jamaica Plain Veterans Hospital where he was Vice President of the union. He served as Commander and Past Commander of the Disabled Veterans Chapter 89 and a member of Post 13 in Dorchester.

During World War 2, he was stationed in the Phillipines and New Zealand war zones. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

Fred was the seventh son of John W. and Margaret J. Wright and he was predeceased by six older and one younger brother. He leaves to mourn his loss, a daughter, Ifetayo “Peggy” Yancey of Clearwater, Florida and a son, Robert, of Woburn, his sister Estella Jackson and a brother, Lloyd Wright, both of Boston. Mr. Wright has two granddaughters, Sharifa Williams of Columbus, Ohio and Karima Haynes of Sylmar, California as well as four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
