With grace, style and dignity Juliette Marie ( Belanger ) Smart of Lawrence died Friday,
August 31 2007 following a long illness. Affectionately called “Memiere” by her childern
And grandchildern Mrs Smart died in her 86 th year in the presence of her family at the
Lawrence General Hospital.
Juliette was the second child born to Emile and Leda (Matton ) Belanger on Easter
Sunday April 16, 1922 on Tower Hill in Lawrence. As one of nine childern she
Received a Catholic education at Sacred Heart parish schools.
In 1950, Juliette married Laren P. Smart, a military man from Idaho. The couple built a
Home in the Mount Vernon nieghborhood where they raised five childern. Active in the
Sacred Heart Parish, and Charitable volunteerism, Mrs Smart worked in the leather book
Binding business in Lawrence. Juliette was a skilled seamstress and chef, creating clothing
As well as culinary creations. She was a longtime Patriots football and Red Sox baseball fan.
Mrs Smart loved to play the card game 45s.
In addition to her husband Mrs Smart leaves her childern, Paul R. Smart and his wife Diane,
Patricia M. LaGraves and her husband Keith, Richard Smart, Thomas Smart and his wife Kathy
And Donna Arrajj and her husband Edmund; ten grandchildern, Daniel M. Smart, Meredith R.
Smart, Nathan P. LaGraves, Matthew Smart, Lauren Smart, Thomas Smart, Julie LaGraves,
Kathleen Smart, Ashley Arrajj, and Meghan Smart; and her brothers and sisters, Bernadette Elston,
Brother Joseph Belanger, Raymond Belanger, Irene Golden, Emile Belanger, Rita Cote, and
Ernest Belanger. She was preceded in death by her brother Philip Belanger.
A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in Our Lady of Good
Counsel Parish/ St. Theresas Church 22 Plymouth St. in Methuen with interment to follow
In Sacred Heart Cemetery.
