BEVERLY: Anne “Nancy” Leadbeater, 86, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 in the Jesmond Nursing Home in Nahant.
Born in Ware, Massachusetts on October 30, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Bertie and Gertrude (Kilpatrick) Leadbeater. She was a lifelong resident of Beverly and a graduate of Beverly High School, the Fanny Farmer’s School of Cookery and the Chester School fro Dental Laboratory Technicians. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, she served in the Occupational Force in Japan and was honorably discharged in June of 1947.
Nancy was employed at Appleseed’s in Beverly for many years. She also once worked at the former Cushman Bakery’s in Lynn and the Naumkeag Mills in Salem for several years. She was a member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and the Church in the Cove where she was a member of both its Ladies Sodality. She was also a member of the North Shore Community Singers, Mass. Audubon Society, Mass. Horticulture Society, Friends of Glen Magna, North Shore Minute Man Crafts, Essex Society of Genealogists, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebecca, Beverly Chapter #16 and Women’s Army Corps, Veterans Association, Bay State Chapter #14.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Lavigne of Nahant, three nieces, Patricia Gajdosik of Shelton, CT, Susan Little of Beverly and Marcie Adams of Mesa, AZ, four nephews, Peter Swift and Ralph Swift both of Danvers, Robert Turner of Boise, ID and William Turner of Mesa, AZ and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Bertram Leadbeater and two sisters, Marcia Turner and Ruth Swift.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday in the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Beverly at 12 Noon. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service from 11 - 12. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 204 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970. Interment will be held in the North Beverly Cemetery.
