DRACUT – Clare B. “Bud” Howard, (82) a longtime Dracut resident, died Friday morning August 31 at his home, after a brief illness. He was the widower of Pauline (Lallas) Howard, who died in October 2001, and to whom he was happily married for 52 years. He was born on December 22, 1924, a son of the late Clarence R. and Pearle (Leslie) Howard, and was raised in Acton.
A graduate of the former Lowell Technological Institute, he was employed in both manufacturing and engineering management and retired from Cambridge Tool in North Billerica. Bud was a life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers where he held all local chapter offices as well as all offices in the former Region Council (New England and Eastern New York State). He also served on the Government Relations and Membership Committees at the national level. He was also a former director and treasurer of the American Production Control Society, Boston Chapter. Most recently, he was an active member of the Holy Trinity Hellenic Orthodox Church of Lowell, where he served on the Parish Council until his death.
Bud is survived by his daughter, Paula L. Burke and her husband Barry and grandchildren Adam and Samantha Burke, all of Tyngsboro; his son, Philip L. Brouillette and his wife Becky and grandson Philip, all of Dracut; his brother John C. Howard in New Jersey; brother-in-law Phillippe Brouillette of Lowell, brother-in-law and godfather James C. Lallas and his wife Catherine of Dracut; and sister-in-law Mary (Tournas) Lallas of Lowell. “Unc” is also survived by treasured nieces Cheryl Southworth and her husband Thomas of Dunstable; goddaughter Sandra Logan and her husband Tom of Nashua, Katina Lallas Fritz and her husband James Fritz of Rockport; Barbara Lallas of Lowell; Amy Wilson and husband David of Virginia; Katherine Hogya and husband Bernie and Phyllis Donlon and husband Edward, residing in New Jersey; cherished nephews Lawrence Howard of California; James Lallas of Boston; Nicholas Lallas and his wife Veronica of California; godson Charles Shaw and his wife Patti in California; Lawrence Howard in California; Donn Howard of Seattle and David Howard of Reading; and George and Marvin Shaw, both in California.
“Unc” is remembered by his extended family of grandnieces and grandnephews: K. Amy Southworth and her husband Tim Campbell of Bedford and their children Nathan and Lindsey; James Southworth and his wife Sandra in California; Abby Rose Logan and her fiancé Jeff Teeple of Amherst NH; Jennifer Logan and her fiancé Matthew Powers in South Boston; Fiona Noring, Annie Fritz and Lily Fritz of Rockport; Lisa and Cheryl Hogya in New Jersey; and Edward, Hanna, Abigail and Matthew Donlon also in New Jersey.
The “Budster” is also survived by his very special friend Athena Hayes and her family.
Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 AM, followed by his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 12 PM at the Holy Trinity Helenic Orthodox Church in Lowell.
