Obituary

Howard W. “Guffer” Meserve, 89, of Hooksett, NH, died Friday, August 31, 2007 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. Mr. Meserve was born in Lynn, MA on August 6, 1918, son of the late Howard W. and Gladys (Brewer) Meserve, Sr. He was a resident of Hooksett for seven years, formerly living in Londonderry, NH and Peabody, MA. Mr. Meserve was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran, and an Ex-P.O.W. He played semi-pro baseball in the late 1930's into the early 1940's. Mr. Meserve had been employed as head of security for the North Shore Mall in Peabody during the 1960’s, and upon moving to Londonderry, was employed as a rural postal letter carrier in Londonderry.
He is survived by his wife 66 years, Lillian N. (Dowdell) Meserve of Hooksett; one daughter, Judith Meserve of Peabody, MA; one son, Richard Meserve of Deerfield, NH; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and also by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Jeanne Hernandez in December 2005.
There were no calling hours. Following cremation, a graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 5th at 2:00pm in the Glenwood Cemetery, Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Ex-Prisoners of War Organization, National Headquarters, 3201 East Pioneer Parkway #40, Arlington, Texas 76010-5396. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry is handing the arrangements.
