DARTMOUTH — Edna L. Sowle, age 93 years, of Dartmouth, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Florence (Rumney) Sowle and lived in New Bedford for many years before her move to Dartmouth in 1957.
Miss Sowle was employed for many years as secretary at the Charles S. Ashley Insurance Company and then Hathaway Oil Company. In past years she had been a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was a member of the Massachusetts Chapter of Descendants of the Mayflower. Her ancestors included George Soule, Francis Cook, Richard Warren and Stephen Hopkins.
She is survived by her sister Hazel E. Smith of Dartmouth; her nephew, Steven V. Smith of Dartmouth; and her niece, Bethany L. Staelens of Astoria, N.Y.
Her funeral will take place on Tuesday, September 4th, at 10 A.M. in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford with visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 4-6 P.M. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
