Obituary

Coy Lee Friend was born July 4, 1942 in Huntsville, Alabama. He was the only child born to the Macelean Jones-Leslie and Benzie Friend. He entered eternal rest on August 31, 2007 in Huntsville, Alabama.

Coy’s commitment to God began early in his life and he demonstrated a quiet yet powerful faith in God until the end of his journey. He was the exemplary model of a son, and he honored is parents with a delicate, devoted and loving spirit.

Coy was united in marriage to the late Ruby Lee Ford Friend in 1961. God blessed this union with two children, Dewayne and Garrison Friend. He was a proud father and grandfather who helped prepare his children for life. He showered his family and friends with unconditional love and devotion. He was a great father-figure to many others also.

Coy labored in the workforce for 39 years and retired from Chrysler in March 2004. He enjoyed helping others and was a dedicated Auburn Fan.

His memories will be forever cherished by two sons: Dewayne (Tina) and Garrison Friend, both of Huntsville, Alabama; two grandchildren: Stephanie and Jordan Friend; one great grandchild, Riley Friend; stepfather, Mr. James Leslie; one uncle, Willie (Mary Friend) of Huntsville, AL; one aunt, Jenny Parks of Huntsville, AL; a special cousin, Mary Elaine (Mitchell) Walker of Huntsville, AL; two brothers-in-law, Walter Lee (Joyce) Ford of Huntsville, Alabama and Charles (Sara) Ford of Pontiac, Michigan; one sister-in-law, Lottie (Melvin) Hayden of Pontiac, Michigan; four godsons, David Foreman, Earl Bynum, Ricky Moore and Patrick Moore; one goddaughter, Sharon (Ashley) Chunn; a devoted friend and caregiver, Barbara Campbell; a host of other relatives and friends and the First Missionary Baptist Church family.

Funeral services for Mr. Friend will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 from the First Missionary Baptist Church at 3509 Blue Spring Road with Reverend G. W. Lindsey officiating. The Friend family will receive family and friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday from the funeral home. Interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens. The remains of Mr. Friend will be in the church one hour prior to funeral time.
