Mr. Eugene Briggs was born to the late Freddie Briggs, Sr. and Emma Gertrude Harris Briggs on March 5, 1925. Born and reared in Madison County, Alabama, Mr. Briggs moved to Chicago, IL during the earlier part of his life. He was married to the former Eddie Mae Scruggs. Mr. Briggs worked for many years in Chicago, and was an active member of his church and had great relationships with people from his community. He was also a veteran of World War II.
When Mr. Briggs' health began to fail, his nephew, J. D. Briggs, became his caregiver and moved him back to Huntsville, AL. Mr. Briggs loved to talk about God and his relationship with him. He was also known to love his Cadillac cars, eat good food and enjoy his cigars.
Mr. Briggs was preceded in death by his brothers Freddie Jr., Sam and Otha and his sisters, Violet, Everlou, Paralee and Lillie Mae.
Mr. Briggs is survived by his sister Minnie B. Davis of Huntsville, AL; one brother, Mr. Thomas Briggs of Huntsville, AL; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Briggs of Huntsville, AL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Briggs will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, August 31, 2007 from the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel located at 2501 Carmichael Avenue, NW in Huntsville, AL. Interment will be in Briggs Cemetery.
