Obituary

Mr. Stavros Giavaras, 85, formerly of Lowell and South Dennis, Ma passed away on August 27th at the Encore Senior Village of Clearwater, Florida.

He was born March 22, 1922 in Lowell, Massachusetts the son of the late Costas “Gust” and Fotoula(Kostoulakos) Giavaras.

Mr. Giavaras was educated through the Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School, class of 1941. He went on to serve his country in the Naval Aircore during World War II being stationed in the South Pacific.

Upon his return from the South Pacific, Mr. Giavaras attended Northeastern University in Boston, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1952.

He went on to work as an electrical engineer for Mass. Electric and later National Grid for over 41 years retiring as a superintendent of electrical engineers.

Mr. Giavaras was a member of the Professional Engineer Association, former president of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, former secretary of the A.H.E.P.A chapter of Lowell, a member of the Greek Orthodox Club of Clearwater, Florida, a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, and a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Clearwater, Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Mrs. Mary(Kirkiles) Giavaras of Clearwater, Florida, two daughters, Faith E. Giavaras of Pine Lake, Georgia, Susan M. Ruggiero of Westford, a sister, Mary Kalivas and her husband Ted of Lowell; four grandchildren, John and Mary Ruggiero, Dimitri and Alexis Fillos; one great granddaughter, Charlotte M. Fillos-Ibbs; also nieces and nephews.

He was the brother to the late John Giavaras.

Friends will be received at the M. R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on Friday, Aug. 31 from 4 to 8pm. His funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Saturday at 9am to be followed by a church service at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10am. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Trinity Church, Lewis St Lowell, Ma. 01852 or to the Holy Trinity Church, 409 S. Old Coachman Rd Clearwater, Fl..33765.
