Robert C. Bottomley, 86, of North Attleboro formerly of Norton died on Wednesday August 29, 2007 at the Epoch Senior Health Care Center in Norton, Ma. He was the beloved husband of Marie L.(Eisenhauer) Bottomley to whom he was wed to on June 6, 1947.
Born in Norton, MA on January 31, 1921 he was a dear son of the late Joseph and Fannie (Curtis) Bottomley.
He grew up in Norton, was educated in Norton schools and was a 1939 graduate of Norton High School. He furthered his studies at Wentworth Institute. During WWII he was a Sergeant serving with the Massachusetts State Guard.
Mr. Bottomley’s working life was spent with the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroads. He retired in 1980 after 40 years of service.
Active in Norton affairs, he served for many years as a Scoutmaster of Troop 12 Boy Scouts of America in the Chartley section of Norton and later as a Commissioner for the Anawan Council for Boy Scouts.
For many years he was a member of the Town of Norton Conservation Commission and the Norton Historical Society. In 1988 he was made an Honorary Member of the Chartley Garden Club.
Mr. Bottomley and his wife belonged to the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and the United Church of Marco Island. He was an avid golfer and credited with shooting 2 holes in one.
During his retirement years he spent winters in Marco Island, Florida with his wife and for over 20 years was very active with Habitat for Humanity Constructing over 80 homes in Immokalee, Florida.
He had made his home in North Attleboro for the past 13 years and had formerly lived in Norton for all his life.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 60 years he is survived by his devoted sons; Fred C. Bottomley and his wife Deborah of North Attleboro, Paul R. Bottomley and his wife Judeth of Falmouth and the late Robert M. Bottomley. His cherished grandchildren; Jessica Bottomley, Caitlin Bottomley, Joshua Bottomley and Courtney Bottomley. He was the loving brother of the late Marion Crowe, Carl Bottomley, Helen Bottomley and Ruth Haskell, also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will be private. Visiting hours have been omitted.
