John T. Conwell, 82, of Londonderry, NH died August 27, 2007 at Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH. Raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was born there on October 2, 1924, a son of the late Henry and Helen (Collins) Conwell. He was educated in the parochial school system and following graduation from high school; he enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the height of World War II. He flew in fifty missions as a tail gunner in the European theatre of the war. When he returned to civilian life he was employed by the Chase Manhattan Bank and on December 10, 1945 he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary P. Gerity. He joined the New York City Fire Department in 1956 and served as a firefighter until his retirement in 1982. In retirement, he lived in Harrisburg, PA and moved to Londonderry seven years ago to be near his family. Mr. Conwell was a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Londonderry and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary P. Conwell of Londonderry; a daughter, Sharon M. Keaveny and her husband Denis of Ipswich, MA; three grandchildren, Glenn D. Keaveny of Camp Hill, PA, Sean T. Keaveny of Ashland, MA and Keri L. Klee of Westfield, MA; and also by five great grandchildren. John was the last surviving member of a family of five children.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, August 29th from 6 to 8 PM in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM in St. Mark’s Church, corner of Mammoth Rd. and South Rd., Londonderry. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Londonderry.
