Dorothy H. “Dot” Davis, 90, of Norton St., Derry, NH, died Monday, December 16, 2002, at the Hanover Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lawrence, MA on June 19, 1912 a daughter of the late Charles B. and Grace (Townsend) Higgins. She moved to Somerville, MA at age two and then to Salem, NH when she was seven. She was a descendant of a passenger of the Mayflower. Dot, as she was known, graduated from Woodbury High School in 1931, after which she worked at the Salem Depot Post Office. She had also been employed over the years as a bookkeeper at Rockingham Park in Salem, and for the Indian Head Bank in Derry. On October 26, 1938, she married Grant E. Davis, and then moved to Derry. Dot joined the Girl Scouts as a child and later served as a leader. Dot had also been a Rainbow Girl. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Derry where she had served on many committees. Dot was a past president of the Derry Junior Women’s Club. She was an active member of the Mizpah Rebekah Lodge #15, I.O.O.F., having joined in 1947. She served as Noble Grand in 1961, as pianist for many years, and as a Past District Deputy President for the Rebekah Assembly of NH. Dot was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militants A #9 of Nashua, and Nashoonon Encampment Auxiliary in Nashua. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Ransford-Adah #3 Chapter in Derry. Dot was also a member of the Marion Grange in Summerfield, FL, and had belonged to the Welcome Chapter Camping Association. Following retirement, Dot and Grant enjoyed camping with their dog Skipper, and traveling extensively throughout the US. Dot was predeceased by her husband Grant E. Davis in 1996, and a daughter, Verna D. Staples in 1994.
She is survived by one daughter, Althea D. Lyons of Derry, four grandsons, two granddaughters, nine great grandchildren, one great great grandson, many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 19th from 1 – 3 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, with the funeral following at 3:00 in the funeral home.
